Do not try to save
the whole world or do anything grandiose. Instead, create a clearing in the dense forest of your life and wait there patiently, until the song that is your life falls into your own cupped hands and you recognize and greet it. Only then will you know how to give yourself to this world so worth of rescue. Tara Brach began a beautiful retreat with this poem by Martha Postlewaite and all of us stepped into the same song for a few days. We didn't all sing it in the same way, who does, but the singing was what mattered. In the chairs beside me, there were folks from California, Canada, Oregon, Arizona, and to live and share on the same frequency with them - peace, love, human understanding, the whole shebang - as the world and news exploded into rhetoric and violence - that gave me hope that we can yet rescue ourselves.
