My grandmother…Scéine

my grandmother’s songs, the silence of scéine and the song of amergin

A lovely beginning, an excerpt performed at the Kenmare Butter Market, at an event connected to the exhibit, Cré: Believing Earth, which features the work of Karen Hendy and Holger Lonze, Paddy Bushe and more.

The event was called Ceiliuradh which means Celebration in Gaelic, honoring Séan Garvey, a beautiful musician who passed away suddenly last year.

No videos or photos of the performance - just one photo of Eimear and me in front of the stage afterwards.

I imagine this first performance was for the grandmothers and all those who were in presence. Only then. Only there.

At one point was I danced, a little girl came running down the aisle, towards the stage and it felt like such grace to receive her running, to receive the fullness of her wanting to be close.

Like that. Aisa hai.

ps: more about the project and what made the development of it possible here. Special thanks below!
