5. navarasa sadhana

The big catalyzing event was the summer of 2016, I went to India to study with famed Sanskrit theatre practitioner Venuji at Natankairali Arts Center (Kerala). The workshop was called the "Navarasa Sadhana" and it was about the source of performance energy as described in the Natyashastra, an ancient Sanskrit text on the performing arts. That summer in India had a remarkable fierce effect of opening a door inside me – it lead my first solo play and to what I feel is my life’s work  – creating art about colonization, race, place, and purpose.

Read an article I wrote about a kudiyattam performance that connected into the navarasa sadhana workshop training
