Testimonials
Rivers Run Through UsShebana Coelho came to Rivers Run Through Us with impeccable timing, remarkable skill and creativity in editing and, most importantly, the ability to listen, assimilate our ideas, make suggestions, and show us what was possible. For me, this was a creative collaboration, where we brought our skills, material and ideas together and what emerged captured the essence of our project. Shebana got it. Got us. And because of that, she gave us a moving, important document of our project. Bobble Besold Rivers Run Through Us |
Meghan HorvathShebana has a powerful ability to help one get to the heart of the matter. She encourages you as a writer to delve deeper into your subconscious and deeper into your language to help bring to the surface the stories only you can tell. She has an uncanny ability for noticing the subconscious bread crumbs left in stories by most writers which often lead us to the "real" story that wants to be told. As an accomplished writer and artist working across disciplines Shebana knows first-hand the joy and the pain of the creative process which means you always feel safe in the hands of such a wise and generous comrade.

Hamaatsa
Hamaatsa is an indigenous learning center and demonstration farm dedicated to sustainable living, spiritual wholeness and cultural restoration. It is through our grassroots work and social activism that we first met Shebana Coelho. A mutual friend of ours highly recommended Shebana as a filmmaker when we were looking for someone to help us produce and a story video about Hamaatsa. We thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with Shebana on this project. We were most impressed with her gift of story-telling, and especially her keen editorial insights into how to transform our particular vision to the screen. The result was a beautiful evocative video, Walking Backward into the Future, which can be viewed at www.hamaatsa.org.

Zuni Pueblo projects
Ms. Coelho is a gifted film maker and story consultant with a well- developed sensibility for the interesting and unique in her understanding and portrayal of people and places. She supported the Center for Lifelong Education at the Institute of American Indian Arts by helping us produce several short videos of our work with the curanderos of Central Mexico, created a web presence and later produced and directed a video report document to the W. K. Kellogg Foundation about the work of the Center for Lifelong education with Indigenous people and tribes. In more recent times she has assisted the Zuni Public School District to video document the series entitled: Transcending Boundaries, Collaborative Dialogues with Indigenous people of Mexico to overcome the impacts of colonization. These conferences were held in Zuni Pueblo and featured Indigenous educators and their struggles as well as their successes.
What we especially appreciated about Ms. Coelho is her keen sensitivity to our vision for the videos, and her guidance on how to manifest that vision through multimedia. She is a patient and curious listener, who guided us into creating the videos that matched the story we wanted to share. We highly recommend her as a story consultant and producer.
